BROOKLYN, NY - Living Room Contemporary presents Ciarra K. Walters ‘The Self-Portrait Series’ opening November 10, 2018 at 6pm in Brooklyn, NY. ‘The Self-Portrait Series’ represents the path to acceptance through the restorative abilities of nature after being raped.

Walters releases her first New York City solo exhibition centered around healing, transparency and vulnerability after assault. 25 film photographs will display the reconstruction of her body and self-image. In Walters’ quest for healing, she uses her body as an expressive tool and finds solace in nature.

‘The Self Portrait Series’ represents Walters’ second wave of healing from her rape in 2013. Traveling to over 16 locations throughout Southern California, she captures the release of her trauma. Walters takes the viewer through a journey of healing, rebirth, and women’s connection to earth.

Ciarra K. Walters is a mixed media artist based in Los Angeles, CA. Walters uses photography, video, performance, and writing to acknowledging traumatic events. She uses the vulnerability of herself and others to unraveling the complexities between women and men of color.

Walters has been featured in multiple publications including i-D and Saint Heron. ‘The Self-Portrait Series’ will be Walters’ third solo exhibition.
